The Tall Red and White Apartment Building
In our previous research we went as far back as 1958 to review old flyers, packaging and sets that would help us to recreate the Town Plan set. Looking back further to the early 1950s we found a flyer detailing ‘Lego Mursten’, an early form of Lego released in Europe.
Released between 1951 and 1955 Lego Mursten sets (translates to ‘Lego Bricks’ in English) featured parts similar or the same as those released in sets from the late 1950s and early 1960s – including the Town Plan set we have. You can see from the flyer our display features many of these parts.
Fun fact: Byggevejledning translates to ‘building instructions’ in English. Even as far back as the early 1950s part of Lego’s product design included detailing both the inventory of parts available, as well as the use of the parts into suggested builds.
Looking at the buildings featured in the flyer we recognised the tall red and white one from our current display, but we love the look of the other large building next to in (see above).
We think this design can be a great starting point for a high rise block of apartments. We might look at making a narrow building and the front facing side the smallest.
The Tall Red and White Apartment Building is 16 studs wide, 32 studs deep and 32 bricks (and 11 plates) high. This prototype design has 740 bricks in total.
We’ve decided to leave any of the named bricks off this building, we like this building as an un-named apartment building.
