Medium Buildings
Now our large buildings plans are underway, we’ll turn our attention to filling the two new baseboards. We have 14 spaces on the board, two or three of these need to be mid-scale to balance out the display. We’ll start with these…
The School
One building we don’t have in our display is a school. Looking for inspiration we found these great photos by Craig Bernadi of a school in Palm Springs.
The Supermarket
We found a great old photograph of an old Woolworths Building. As best we can decipher it is apparently from downtown Houston in Texas, USA. The ‘blockiness’ of this old building will recreate well in Lego.
The Cathedral
We’re really expanding our research at the moment, we’re digging deep into online archives of 1960s Lego and the associated print material such as flyers, ‘Ideas’ books, in fact any little snippets we can get hold of we’ll use as inspiration.
The Ambulance Station
This build will be based on the Town Plan buildings of the era. We’ll see if we can make it two story and make use of a spare garage door plate we have on hand.
The Small Apartments
We might do another free build. This is a simple build in white bricks and plates and transparent bricks.
The Sloped Roof Apartments
In keeping with our apartment theme we’ll build another set of apartments - this time with a sloped roof.
The Cinema
The last of our medium buildings will be a cinema inspired by the Odeon Cinema in North Yorkshire, UK. Built in 1936, the design of the Odeon Cinema references both art deco and modernist architectural periods.
