Extra-large Buildings
We had such a great time at both the Melbourne and Sydney Lego shows. With Canberra in sight, we think maybe it's time to go bigger and attempt some large-scale, tall buildings (My Own Creations - MOCs) - the really big ones we always dreamed of making when we were kids...
What if we went bigger?
We have built as many of the suggested builds and the stand-alone sets as we could. We'll try our hand at some of our own creations. The first build is inspired by some old Lego advertising artwork we found online.
Maybe we need a carpark for all those Empire State Building workers?
Buoyed by the fun we had making the Empire State Building we'll turn our attention to our next building. Perhaps with all the 'workers' in the State building we need to build a carpark?
Extra Large Apartments
As we continue the building journey of our extra large MOCs, we'll look at at including a large scale apartment block. Looking at images of the Lego Museum for inspiration, and we like the look of the yellow building and pretty sure we can modify it for our display.
Another skyscraper...
On to our final building. We now have our three large scale MOCs to complete our Town Plan set ready for display at the Canberra Brick Expo in August. We need one final one to balance the display. Another free-build. We have some pieces left over and we'll put them to good use.
OK, maybe just one more...
When we put the display together with our new extra large buildings we realise we still need one final large scale building. The gaps between the buildings need to be smaller to create a "metropolis" feel - one final building will fill the gap nicely.
The death of a skyscraper (and the invention of a new one)
So... a little problem... we love the blue and white skyscraper we built - problem is, it had completely disintegrated by the time we arrived in Canberra after a 4 hour drive...
Lego Ideas Book
As we’re researching ideas for our expansion plans, we’ve stumbled across the first ever Lego Ideas Book. (No. 1). What a great resource it is, with some fabulous graphics and images from the early 1960s.
