Large Buildings II

We’ll need four or five larger buildings to fit with the existing scale and design of our display. There is so much wonderful modernist architecture out there to be inspired by, it shouldn’t be that difficult.

The Museum

During our research into modernist architecture we came across a wonderful building located in Canada. The Frederic Wood Theatre in Vancouver is a shining example to modernist architecture. Perfect for a Lego recreation.

The Grand Theatre

Built in the early 1950s, Neelam Theatre is located in Sector 17, the commercial district of the modernist city Chandigarh, that was famously masterplanned by Le Corbusier in post-independence India. This could make a ‘Grand’ Theatre for our lego town.

The Tall Red and White Apartments

A flyer detailing some of the earliest Lego bricks, Lego Mursten, provided some inspiration for an apartment building.

The Department Store

In the next village up the mountain from our place is the Blue Mountains Council Chambers. It’s a fabulous tribute to modernity and functionality. Built in 1961 it has a detailed but quintessential modernist facade, complete with blue tinted glass and blue tiles running up the front left wall.
