The Cathedral

We’re really expanding our research at the moment, we’re digging deep into online archives of 1960s Lego and the associated print material such as flyers, ‘Ideas’ books, in fact any little snippets we can get hold of we’ll use as inspiration. Looking through a design website dedicated to analogue design (www.design-is-fine.org) we found this image which interested us:

As best we can understand this design idea was featured in the Lego System Ideas Book No. 3 from c.1962. Despite our continued searching we cannot locate any other images or perspectives of this idea, nor can we source an online image of the drawing on the page in the book. We’ll give it a go based on this one image and see what we can manage...

We think this might look good as a larger build that could site in this spot on the baseboard as well as covering the ‘roadway’ in between the red and green sections:

This is too big - it will sit next to either the school or the supermarket, in either case it will dwarf either of those. We’ll give a smaller version a go…

The Cathedral 2.0 will sit nicely on the baseboard and has a much more appropriate scale than out first attempt.

The second version of the Cathedral is 25 studs wide, 10 studs deep and 17 bricks (and 2 plates) high - excluding the flag. This prototype design has 391 bricks in total.
