The Sanitarium Factory
The bigger picture of what to do with the collection is becoming more clear. We knew we had something special that Lego fans might be interested in seeing, but what to do with it? We found out a few weeks back that our application for Brickvention 2017 was successful - we are goin' to Melbourne!
So if we're going to the effort of a 12-hour road trip hauling the Lego (and ourselves) to Melbourne in January, we need to concentrate on what the end result would look like in an enormous exhibition centre, surrounded by hundreds of other Lego displays. Scale and size of the eventual display will be important.
So, in celebration of our upcoming display at the Melbourne Brickvention, we are going to tackle a large-scale, Victorian building. It would of course need to be tribute to modernist architecture to fit with the style of the Town Plan set.
As soon we saw this beauty we know we had to give it a try:
One tiny hitch... we're running low on bricks again. Another investment in bricks is required. But so we can order the types and quantity we need to first build prototype. We dumped all our Lego bricks (new and vintage) on a rug on the floor and went for it!
From here, we'll break the prototype down, inventory all the pieces we need, and place the order on Bricklink. We managed to get the pieces from 3 or 4 stores so the postage fees ended up being reasonable.
Once our goodies were delivered we got busy building, recreating the prototype with the correct coloured pieces. Here is the finished masterpiece:
