Did you know Lego made cars and trucks?

What intrigued us about the collection was the inclusion of some small cars and trucks in the collection. As a long-time Lego family we consider ourselves somewhat Lego aficionados – we have played and built with 1970s Lego, 1980's Lego, and with my kids; Duplo, Star Wars Lego, Jurassic World Lego, City Lego, Friends Lego, Elves Lego and any number of free-play sets in between – but never had we known Lego to make stand-alone cars and trucks.
So initially thinking our old neighbours had bundled up some old corgis or matchbox cars, so we popped them aside while we identified the more recognisable elements. But of course once we saw the images of the Town Plan Set we knew the cars and trucks needed a closer look.
So the blue and yellow trucks are pretty obvious. Although somewhat faded, we could still clearly see the Lego logo on the side. In addition on the underside we can see a Lego logo imprinted in the plastic.
These are definitely Lego products, the logo on the bottom plate confirms it. Further research puts these as HO 1:87 scale cars released by Lego between 1958 and 1966.
The blue flat bed truck with the plastic tray is damaged, with signs of an attempt to glue it back together.
The Tow truck, still with the little hook to tow other vehicles (fun fact: only the VW Beetles can be towed as they have a gap between the chassis and bumper bar.).
Here's the Fire truck, complete with a working extendable ladder. It is however, missing a small winch from the back bumper area.
And, a little worse for wear (and missing the small plastic oil containers that sit on the flat-bed), the ESSO truck:
And finally, the ESSO tanker:
We'd love to complete our collection by acquiring all the available truck models - we'll settle for one of each model, irrespective of colour. These trucks sell for anywhere between US$100 to US$300 so we'll need to see if we can grab a bargin along the way...
POSTSCRIPT #1
In June 2017, we managed to track down the Mercedes Shell tanker truck. The decals are a little worn in places but a great addition to the collection.
POSTSCRIPT #2
In January, 2018 we were lucky enough to track down a rare HO Scale, Mercedes Refrigerated Truck (Interfrigo, Twin Axle) in great condition. Interfrigo is a transport company based in Brussels - the literal English translation is "Intercontainer".
And now on to the cars...

2. Town Plan Set #810
