The first ever Lego minifigs
<< Back to The Discovery
So, onwards we go, next stop is Lego's first ever minifigures (or so we were about to find out).
Included in the collection were nine small plastic figurines, that until we looked into the contents of the Town Plan Set #810, we assumed were toys from another toy company. We have three male cyclists, two male motorcyclists with sidecars, two female scooter riders and two male motorcyclists.
The original Town Plan Set contained four minifigs; one of each of the cyclist, scooter, motorcyclist and motorcyclist with sidecar, so where did the others come from?
Most likely they were purchased as a separate pack.
Further research informed us there were eight different types of vehicles shapes manufactured in the late 1950s/early 1960s:
The figurines were painted by hand and as a result there are many variations on colours, but only ever on the same eight different shapes.
Still in the HO scale, the collection had three police figurines, a set of traffic lights and a street lamp. This was not part of the Town Plan set but a stand-alone set (No. 271) from the late 1950s/early 1960s. It contained four policemen, the traffic lights and traffic island/lamp. Our set appears to be missing one of the policemen. These were not part of the Town Plan set and only available as a seperate set.
