So how do you build a Lego Town Plan city? (Part 1)

<< Back to The Planning

So as we were discovering the ins and outs of what was in the collection, we are uncovering how the pieces were put together to make the Lego town. The time was right to start start doing what lego was made for: building!

But where to start? Our intention is to be as faithful as possible to the original instructions and/or artwork included in the Town Plan set and other stand-alone sets produced around the same era (1958 to 1962).

With layered, or step-by-step instructions yet to be included in Lego sets, the late 1950s/ early 1960s sets often only included flyers with 'suggested builds'. This is a flyer we found with the collection:

The flyer that we found in the collection - this was the only documentation of suggested buildings for the Town Plan set. 'Layered' instructions were yet to be fully integrated into the Lego system.

From here we will start assembling a 'wish-list' of what we intend to build as depicted on the flyer from the collection:

  1. The White and Trans Apartments

  2. The Hotel

  3. The Tiny House

  4. The Tiny House (curved roof)

  5. The Cafe

  6. The Kiosk

The White and Trans Apartments:

We called this the white and trans apartment block.

The Hotel:

The Hotel.

The Tiny House:

The Tiny House.

The Tiny House with the curved roof:

Rounded roof tiny house

The Cafe:

What we're calling The Cafe.

The Kiosk:

We found a 1 x8 white brick with 'kiosk' on it so thought this might make a nice kiosk.

We found a 1 x8 white brick with 'kiosk' on it so thought this might make a nice kiosk.

So far, so good – we have 6 buildings on our to-do list:

  1. The White and Trans Apartments

  2. The Hotel

  3. The Tiny House

  4. The Tiny House (curved roof)

  5. The Cafe

  6. The Kiosk

But we needed 14 in total to fill the board spaces so onwards we will search...
